Teja Sajja Mirai Japan Bookings: Enters Top 10 Indian Films

Japan has emerged as a promising overseas market for Telugu cinema, and Teja Sajja’s Mirai is now making a strong impression even before its Japanese theatrical release. The film has reportedly entered the Top 10 Indian films in Japan for Day-1 advance bookings, joining Telugu blockbusters such as RRR, Baahubali 2, Pushpa 2, Devara and Salaar. Mirai has also moved ahead of Dhurandhar 2 in the current advance-booking rankings and is closing in on Tiger Zinda Hai, with two more days of bookings remaining.

Building on Hanu-Man’s Japan Foundation

The buzz is particularly significant for Teja Sajja, whose international market has been steadily expanding since Hanu-Man. The 2024 superhero film developed a strong following in Japan and eventually collected around ₹1 crore in the territory. Mirai, however, appears to be witnessing considerably stronger pre-release traction, suggesting that Teja Sajja’s appeal in Japan could be growing with every film. According to Deccan Chronicle, the film is giving Telugu cinema another big boost in the Japanese market.

Why Japan Is Embracing Mirai

Directed by Karthik Gattamneni, Mirai offers a distinct combination of Indian mythology, fantasy, action and large-scale visual effects, giving Japanese audiences a different flavour of cinema. The film’s unique world-building and spectacle could prove to be major advantages in a market that has shown strong appreciation for fantasy and mythology-driven narratives. Japan’s growing appetite for Telugu films has been evident with the success of RRR and Baahubali 2, and Mirai appears positioned to capitalize on this trend.

With Mirai still having time to add to its advance bookings, the film could climb even higher on Japan’s opening-day rankings. For Teja Sajja, this represents another encouraging step in the expansion of his market beyond Telugu-speaking territories. Hanu-Man established the foundation, but the early response to Mirai suggests that the actor could be building a genuine overseas audience of his own. If the impressive advance momentum translates into strong footfalls after release, Mirai could add another memorable chapter to Telugu cinema’s growing success story in Japan.
